As for the items, I hate lethality Riven both now and previous seasons. Most of the matchups i can come up with are ranged and if people know how to punish with them its not that fun of a lane.
The problem i have with mid Riven is the build and matchups. Riven is good at roaming and mid is the roamers paradise since you have easy and fast access to top, bot rotations and not to mention helping your jungle with early fights.
Mid Riven is a thing i hate while making sense. This season Riven is truly shining and people who know how to play her are getting rewarded for it. I'm pretty consistent on top with Riven ATM.
